A Sketch for Friday.

It’s hard to focus on a slow Friday.

Recently, I read about the technique for drawing human head proportions by splitting the head into 3 thirds. I finally understood why the majority of my portraits look awkward. It’s also a nice shorthand for identifying the differences among faces. Subtle changes in the vertical proportions of the face adds character, depth and feeling to what would otherwise be a relatively bland drawing. I was using a technique similar to this which while not wrong is less accurate and versatile than the previous technique.
