Open letter to massachusetts motorists.

People, it’s just snow. It is neither the 8th biblical plague nor a sign of the coming apocalypse. It does not change the rules that govern the road nor does it inhibit otherwise sound drivers from remaining so. It’s only slightly slippery. Please adjust your behavior accordingly.

That is all.

Where I self-promote…

I’m working on an visual interface that allows users [or more specifically, me] the ability to add new entries to the database behind Bildkorten. As of right now, when a user launches Bildkorten all the necessary data is retrieved via Perl from a single flat file. While that solution works fine, a relational database provides far more flexibility for whatever improvements, enhancements, or tomfoolery I feel compelled to implement.

When I first planned and build Bildkorten, I wanted an interface based strictly on a grid. Each element visible on the page needed to directly relate to that grid. And while the result was rather pleasing, it was also rather stark.

With this new back end interface, I’m aiming the develop the visual character of the project. I’m thinking about something a little more fun than a 20 x 50 grid.

Ja, jävlar!

dc_vasa.jpgRead Get Fuzzy today.

Last summer my wife and I went to see the Vasa in it’s final resting place along the shores of Stockholm. They’ve got this great museum that details all of the time and effort that when into building it. They even illustrate how if you build a boat that’s really tall and narrow with minimal ballast stones and a high center of gravity, the slightest wind or water chop will knock it on it’s side.

Said Gustavus Adolphus on August 10th, “Jävlar.”
